I can help make a change, and I believe it starts with positivity!

When my best friend was bullied at school, I didn’t understand it. She’s the kindest, most thoughtful friend, and yet she faced negativity that hurt her feelings and ruined her time at school.

I got home from school and my parents could see I was upset. We talked about bullying and reasons why it happens. I just wanted to know why people had to bully. My dad told me often times bullys feel sad and mad inside, and that’s one reason they may bully others.

It started with bullying.

See the positive in everything.

That’s when it hit me - if the bully is feeling negative and their bullying makes other people feel negative too, then maybe one way to prevent bullying is to harness the power of positivity! Having a positive mindset is a powerful force. My parents taught me to always try and see the positive in each situation. A positive attitude helped me with challenges I faced in sports, classes at school, with classmates, and even my health. I told my parents I wanted to have a day that was devoted to being positive and that I wanted to spread that message to as many people as possible. I decided i would call it Yay!DAY and the first Yay!DAY would be October 30th, 2019.

I decided Yay!Day should be about radiating positivity ALL year.

I started Yay!DAY on 10/30, but I believe positivity is something that should be practiced every day of the year. And I knew I wanted to use Yay!DAY to support causes that help others. You see, I have a severe peanut allergy. The fear of having an allergic reaction can bring about many negative feelings. My parents have always taught me to be positive, be prepared, and to know that i have taken the right steps to keep myself safe. This approach has helped me tremendously and I know it can be applied to the challenges each and every one of us face in our lives.

Yay!Day is about more than just spreading positivity.

Yay!DAY is about using positivity as a vehicle to educate, inspire, and provide support to those committed to improving people’s lives. The best part is, there’s lots of ways to yay! Our in-school programs are crafted by students, teachers, and administrators with participants developing specific objectives and activities based around their interests. We know that positivity comes in many forms and we want our participants to contribute to the Yay!DAY mission in their own unique way. I ‘d love for you to help us radiate positivity!

The Yay!Day mission: PEERS

Contributions to Yay!DAY support our PEERS scholarship program, with a mission to improve the lives of participants, their family and friends, and the community as a whole. The PEERS program’s goal is to promote positivity by educating participants about the numerous social, health, educational, and career benefits of adopting positivity as a guiding force. We utilize our programs to continue our efforts of encouraging learning and outreach, and utilize our scholarships and fundraising dollars to recognize individuals and organizations that spread positivity in our local community. Yay!DAY continues to provide support through mentorship, volunteering, educational resources, and collaboration with business and organizations that are dedicated to the Yay!DAY cause.
